My research paper for English is to write about whether I think Dracula is a highly evolved human or a monster. I honestly don't think he's either, but I'm leaning towards highly evolved human.
So what kind of articles or books do you think I should research because right now I have no idea where to look. I don't know how to connect Dracula with human evolution. The topic of evolution is so vast so it's nearly impossible to find one that could relate to something like vampirism.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
How should I start this research paper about Dracula?
Well, evolution of any kind means that something has to change and make the next generation different from the so called 'norm'.
Since evolution is basically described as 'survival of the fittest, the fact that non bloodsucking humans are the norm would seem to indicate that Dracula, who is a relative newcomer to the scene, could be considered the next step, one that, as in the past, destroys the older, unfit, model.
Either way, he would be considered a monster, anything different usually is.
On the other hand, Vampire legends abound throughout history suggesting that they are an anomoly that pop up every once in a while and have not survived as a general population, making them outcast and regarded as 'monsters'. You could go either way.
Just a thought.
Reply:Enigmatic_truth,
You need to get a copy of a book that gives the life and times of Vlad Tepes, the real Dracula. Believe me, he was truly a monster.
The book I have is entitlede Dracula Prince of Many Faces. It's by Radu R. Florescu and Raymond T. McNally. It is actually the life and times of the man.
Other books by them include:
In Search of Dracula: A True History of Dracula and Vampire Legends.
Dracula: A biography of Vlad the Impaler, 1431-1476.
The Essential Dracula: An illustrated and annotated edition of Stoker's classic novel.
These are all you need.
