What specific area about the desperate housewives would make a good research paper?

our teacher told us to do a research paper about pop culture and i thought of desperate housewives. uhm so what particular side or the show should i make the paper with? uhm, something about feminism... but what about it? it must have some kind of significance to the society, culture, etc. it must also have a stand. it's like a persuasive paper and i must present evidences about it. something like, desperate housewives altering the norms of a modern woman...

what other ideas can you suggest? consider the possible resources i can find

thanks!

What specific area about the desperate housewives would make a good research paper?
well you got my email... but a few suggestions:

1) The Role of Man Vs. Woman on DH and how it compares to percieved roles in society... (Percieved is important to put because technically your views would be based just on perceptions)

2) Differences In Female Roles on DH- comparing different female roles--- IE--- Lynette or Susan's role as working mothers vs. Bree's role as a stay at home mother and Gabby's role as a singel women.

3) The Effect of Aging on the roles of females in society- how do different people react to aging? IE- Edie uses sex as a weapon or as a way to gain importance; Gabrielle tries plastic surgery; Mrs. McKlusky grows old and bitter; Rex's Mother begs her daughter-in-law to stay in her life.

4) Another thing you could do is research different feminisnt principals and compare them to the roles seen on DH... For example Freidan talked about a Femine mystique and you could discuss how that is or isn't shown on DH (hint look at season one episodes revolving around Lynette using Ritilan; in particular episodes called "Pilot" and "Guilty)

5) Another one you could do is to pick several episodes of DH an compare the roles of women on that show to other female lead series such as Sex and the City, the golden girls, gossip girl, roseanne, gilmore girls and so on--and use feminist theory or sociology to support your ideas.

---Your teacher will love anything you do as long as you provide solid support for your agruments--- make sure you cite every single source---including episodes you watch or transcripts you read.

the cites below will provide much help...

One suggestion i have, if possible attempt to call the studio responsible for producing DH and ask if you could speak with someone involved with producing or writing the show for a short phone interview- explain you are a student writing a paper on this show. my college instructors always encouraged us to try reaching out to people like that and see if they'd be willing to help... Make sure to properly cite any interviews you do. (PS. if you do go this route, keep in mind you likey won't get to interview a actor or producer, but may be able to get a lesser-known staff member on the series).

Another suggestion for a possible topic- interview women and men of various age groups and see how age affects their perceptions of the show as it relates to feminist theory--- ask specific questions about their life expierance and how it may or may not relate to issues on that show; provide concrete examples or descriptions of scenes in the conversation

dang i almost wish i was in school now to do a topic similar to this.

is this for high school or college?

good luck
Reply:Their responsibilities of taking care of the household. I never watched it before, just heard of it.
Reply:I think it'd be interesting to do a paper about the relationships people have with their neighbors, both good and bad. You could talk about things like secrets and use examples from the show and discuss what we should and should not know about our neighbors.

You can talk about how watching this show could possibly influence people to be more nosy and suspicious of their neighbors etc.

Just a thought
