Could you please help me with my research paper?

I'm writing a research paper on William Golding's Lord of the Flies and I wanted some opinions on my conclusion. My topic is the significance of the conch in the novel from it's uses a as a symbol of order and a symbol of power and as its representation of the end of civilization. This is part of my conclusion: "Their situation is much like that of any society. Most people posses their own “conch” which has its own various representations to that individual. Just as the conch is destroyed, personal conchs can also be destroyed and when they are people become psychological savages."

Please tell me what you think about it and if I should change this part or leave it. Thanks.

Could you please help me with my research paper?
for an example You could say that the conch represents order on the island. At first it is used to call all the people together. Then at the end when the conch is crushed by the boulder, it represents the destruction of order on the island.

what you have so far is good too.
Reply:I always thought that the conch was more a symbol of mankind's need for order. With the conch, the boys had found a way to organize themselves. Without the meetings that the blowing of the conch preceded, there was utter chaos on the island, as each boy was off doing whatever he wanted.

The breaking of the conch was Golding's symbolic way of showing that all sense of order had broken down. In a sense, the boys were no longer English but brute savages.

I disagree that everyone "carries their own conch." I think things like the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the court system are our conches.

Where can I find primary sources for my research paper?

I need to write a research paper on 'cloning' and I need sources for it. I can't afford to pay for any, so I was wondering if anyone knew if there were sites that provided free primary papers. :[

Where can I find primary sources for my research paper?
The first successful cloning was done on plants before they were done on animals. The simplest example of cloning in plants is taking a branch and plant it and it grows into a plant resembling the mother plant where it come from.

Search the web and type "tissue culture" and you will get plenty of hits. Some of them are about animal.
Reply:dunno any sites but hope this helps a bit --

Ethics of Cloning

Cloning has been going on for decades now, although for most people "cloning" wasn't a part of their everyday vocabulary until about 4 years ago. Scientists have been cloning embryotic cells for about 30 years. In 1970 Dr. John B. Gurdon from the U.K. cloned a frog by transplanting the cell of a tadpole into a frog egg. That was a major scientific breakthrough; the next step was to produce a clone from an adult cell.

For about 30 years nothing major happened. Then, after more than 271 tries before the process was successful, in July of 1996 Dolly was born. The sheep was cloned from an adult cell by Dr. Wilmut and his team. Dolly was in newspapers, on TV's and in magazines across the entire world. She, to this day, is probably the most famous sheep ever. Dolly was the beginning of something amazing yet so debatable. Some people have hope that one day we can actually clone humans for purposes like giving unfertile parents a chance to raise a baby, bringing "back" the dead, etc. Other people believe that science is going too far and we are "playing God."

Cloning humans is very possible with our technology, the only thing that is stopping this procedure is the law. Dr. Richard Seed, a fertility specialist, claims that he can and will clone a human by the year 2001. He says the only reason he hasn't yet is because he doesn't have the funds, but says that someone out there does have the funds and will pay whatever it takes to have themselves or someone else cloned. Seed says that he will go to Mexico to do the procedure since it's illegal in the United States. No one knows whether or not Seed will go through with his plans for sure, but what we do know is that he has the knowledge and is very capable of cloning. "We are going to become one with God. We are going to have almost as much knowledge and almost as much power as God," (Richard Seed, National Public Radio 1/6/98), says Seed.

Cloning raises alot of ethical, moral and religious issues. Standing at a religious viewpoint, cloning is playing with nature just a little too much. For instance, some christians think cloning is "getting rid of God's plan." God created each and every one of us, and if we took things into our own hands it would be betraying Him. Anothing very important factor is individulality. People look to where they came from and who created them to find their personal identity. A cloned child wouldn't be able to say that God created him, nor would that child be able to say that he had 2 parents. Most christians also believe that cloned children might not have souls. God created everyone and gives everyone a soul, so what happens to the people that God doesn't create? No one can really say, and that, to most people, is scary.

What would be a good topic for a research paper? Informative or one sided?

I hvae to Write a 7 page research paper for english. It need to either be and informative paper or one that i am for or agaisnt one side. It needs to be something that can easily be looked up.

What would be a good topic for a research paper? Informative or one sided?
argumentative is my favorite. informative can be sort of boring sometimes.

i suggest something that is a hot topic- something having to do with politics whether national or local.

please don't do abortion as your topic! i am sure your teacher has read about 500 papers on this topic already.

by the way, wikipedia is a TERRIBLE source! it is edited by random people on the net... anyone can do it! granted there are people who "check" the validity of the information, you can never be too sure! better to use a book or a valid web-site!
Reply:I just did a 12-page informative paper on DNA profiling and the pros and cons. I used databases and the general Internet and found a lot of info. You could even do an argumentative paper on whether you feel it is ethical or not.
Reply:I don't really know what you are interested in, but I can give you ideas of things I have done in the past:

How to Survive a Zombie Attack

Batman: The Greatest Superhero of All Time

An Analysis of the American Government from the Perspective of the TV show The Simpsons

Science Fiction: A New Way of Life (about ppl who obsess over fantasy)

My past teachers loved these topics. If you could give an idea of what literature you are studying I could give you some ideas for those. (if you are looking for something based on what you've read)

Hope this helps! Good Luck!
Reply:It is best to write about something you are interested in. Once you got that, I always go to Wikipedia before every research paper I write. Don't copy anything from there, but it usually hits all the main points that you will be writing about. It also has links to place you can actually cite.

I personally prefer an informative paper. "Info dump" papers are easy cause you just puke out facts. If you did a one sided then you'd have to show evidence to why your way of thinking is correct.
Reply:The Pros and Cons of Stem Cell Research.
Reply:Abortion, Gun Control, Capital Punishment, The war on Iraq.

All are topics with alot of information for and against them out there.
Reply:topic your best ? what is it ? for ? against?

think what are you good at ? find think note till you have it all then write [don`t for get the topic
Reply:You can do a study on Nato expansion. Learn all about it at www.nato.int it will tell you all you need to know about the (North Atlantic Treaty Orginization.)
Reply:One sided. Once you get on a topic that you feel passionately about you will not be able to stop writing. I just did a 10 page one for college and it turned out great.
Reply:Of course it depends on your interests, but SUBURBAN SPRAWL is a topic that has social, political, economic and other implications, which would make it an interesting topic. Lots of books and articles about it to. You could check out the American Planning Association for resources.
Reply:If I were you, I'd choose the argumentative research paper. That way, you can find something you're passionate about and research it. Find a controversial issue such as standardized testing in public schools and how it affects student performance. Are these tests actually measuring how intelligent people are or wasting time? There will be a TON of research available.

Does anybody have a good idea for a topic for a junior high research paper?

I have to find three possible topics for a 5 page research paper I have to write, but every year I can never think of anything. I'm in the eight grade. Please give me something interesting!

Does anybody have a good idea for a topic for a junior high research paper?
Try researching something that most people don't know about. How about Autism? There are many internet sites that will have TONS of information for you. With it being such a big topic, it may be great for you to do. Also, not many people will do a topic like that. I had to do a 6 page research paper to graduate, and I did mine on Autism as well. There are many places you can go that will tell you lots of information. If that doesn't interest you, then there are other topics you can do, you just have to think about a topic that isn't well known.
Reply:How about a medical condition, like AIDS, cancer, diabetes, or something along those lines? Or an important issue in today's society, like Abortion, legalization of marijuana, rising drug prices, or welfare? Or even a report on something you find interesting, like space, animals, or a different country. Or the history/way to play a certain sport? I hope these helped!

How to write a research paper on pianos?

so i have this research paper due next week, and i get to choose whatever i want to write about. and i have to use at least one book as my resource, so i i chose piano because thats the only good book i have with me right now and that i've been playing piano for 8 years. but i don't know how to start out my paper. i need to say something that is somewhat opinion-like ( for example, if pianos were never around we would all die) but except more reasonable. HELP!

How to write a research paper on pianos?
You should start by going through the book and seeing quickly what is covered. See if you can make an argument about the piano's influence on music itself, for example: Ragtime music could not have been created if the piano had not been invented. Or you could go historical and argue about how pianos evolved music from medieval music into classical music. Or figure out who an influential pianist was and argue that her or his style of playing influenced today's techniques. Or you could argue that while they were ppular for their time, they didn't survive through generations.

Once you have an argument, find your evidence. Using your book, carefully search for parts that support your argument.

Good Luck!
Reply:do some resarch on the history of a piano and how it has developed over the past years..... your topic and argument could possible be how music itself have developed due to pianos!!!
Reply:you should go on to www.crlsresearchguide.org it is a very great website that tells you how to write it step by step!

What an abstract -of a research paper- should include?

The abstract is a simple summary to help the reader determine if reading the entire study would be of benefit.

What should my resources be on my works cited page for my research paper? It is on influenza (See the details)

I am writing my research paper on influenza. Any suggestions on what books are good for the research? What should my topic sentence be? What question should I ask about influenza (so that I can answer the question with my research by supporting good information in the paper)? Any good sources and how I can do the above is really helpful. Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!

P.S. I am writing this research paper for college.

What should my resources be on my works cited page for my research paper? It is on influenza (See the details)
You can really write a good paper on this topic. A topic sentence could be the effects of influenza in today's society. This could be centered on who many people are effected by the flu and what is being done to either prevent or eliminate the virus. A few sources could be the CDC website, www.webmd.com, just to name a few. If that topic isn't catchy to you, write about the effects of influenza in children vs. adults, and the severity of this epidemic. You may want to write about influenza, how it started, and how far we have come in "battling" this disease. You can find research papers on JSTOR, or any places your library has access to. Good luck!!

What is the best way to start a research paper on the Holocaust?

I have to write a research paper...my choose of the topic... but not sure how to start something like this off. Any help will be helpful. Thanks

What is the best way to start a research paper on the Holocaust?
You start an academic paper, by introducing the topic. Talk about the affects of the holocaust, then relay your thesis and what it is that you'll be saying in your paper..for instance, if your telling about how it happened or what cause it you could say..

Like, The Holocaust of 6 million people of Jewish decent took place in/on.......

or start with a Winston Churchill or Eisenhower quote after they found the concentration camps, and then lead into your thesis. Or you could start with a quote from Adolf Hitler..and intoduce the topic from there..and talk about the tragedity..etc.
Reply:The Holocaust itself is too broad of a subject. The first thing you need to do is to limit the topic. There are many ways to go about this. You could concentrate on the "righteous ones" - those whose stories of helping the Jews have been chronicalled by the nation of Israel. Or you could concentrate on a particular camp - Auschwitz, for example - or on a particular process - such as the "research" done on live and tortured subjects.
Reply:start it off with a quote from a holocaust survivure. i did a research paper on the holocaust as well early this year. its the best way to start it off.

How to cite things in a research paper?

If I am writing a research paper, how do I cite personal experience or something that a pharmacy worker told me?

I'm writing a paper on drug legalization and I want to say that it is illegal to purchase syringes in my county (Los Angeles) because of drug concerns. I learned this when I went to Walgreen's and asked to buy syringes for re-hydrating moths and butterfly specimens. The pharmacy worker told me that I need a prescription for that in my county.

How to cite things in a research paper?
With personal experience, you just state what you found. For what you were told, you can either say something like Joe Blow, a pharmacist, said that .... or you can make the statement and follow it with "(teste Joe Blow, pharmacist)". The word "teste" is in italics.
Reply:If you want to put that in your research paper, you'll need to cite that law. The person at WalGreens can probably tell you where to find it.
Reply:First it depends on if it is being done in a REQUIRED style.

Next, citations are usually PUBLISHED expert research or lay findings in a credible source.

If someone you know or talks you cites something, be ready to BACK IT UP with CREDIBLE findings otherwise it's just an opinion.

I have a research paper due first thing in the morning tomorrow. Can it be done? If so, please give me some tips and pointers. Thank you

Is it possible to complete a 5 page research paper in one night?
There is this crazy thing called COFFEE!!!!!!

And spellcheck.

And wikipedia.

It is possible. I am a pro at it.

Use wikipedia to gather basic needed information. Wikipedia condenses a ton of information into a little bit which saves a ton of time. Because you cannot cite wikipedia and have your paper look decent, wikipedia can be used as a starting base, and you can then search for better sites or books.

Just type. Do not correct errors because spell and grammar check will do that. Once you get going, do not stop unless its to get coffee.

TV off. AIM closed. Anything not paper related away.

Most importantly: Realize that if you do not work like mad focused crazy you will not get this done. Not getting this done means failing. Badly. And that is bad. Scare yourself.
Reply:I am sorry. I wish I could pick all of you people for best answers and give you all 10 points each, but I can only choose one! Thank you all, I really appreciate it!!! Report Abuse

Reply:[1 day later...]

well, what's the verdict? did you complete it?

is there any blood left in your veins or is it 100% coffee? :o)
Reply:You should not procrastinate.
Reply:Start now. It can be done. Use an outline so you know the structure. Then fill in the detail.
Reply:I do it all the time, turn the TV off and get off this Yahoo Q%26amp;a and get busy.
Reply:Page length means nothing. It's the content. You can write a 100 page paper that has zero substance with ease. Meanwhile, a 1 page paper critically analyzing something could take one many days to put together. It also depends on the reader's expectations. If you're an undergrad, there's probably not much in the way of expectation from your professor. On the other hand, a grad student wouldn't dare to turn in crap.
Reply:Good thing you waited til the last minute. Dummy!!

2. Brew coffee, Tea, or have large quantites of soda

3. Start NOW.

4. Pick a topic that has a fairly long article on Wikipedia. Even though it is not considered a good reference by most teachers, it LINKS to good references.

5. Skim the information and the write a lot. After writing go back and tie references into parts of your paper.

6. Cross your fingers that your teacher is not a difficult grader.
Reply:Absolutely ...

I've done a 20+ page report in a night.

However, it requires that you know your material. That is, if you are just starting to sit down and research, you're toast. If you know what you are looking for, then its pretty easy.

Under duress, there is a huge pressure to steal large passages of somebody else's work ... Don't do it. Not only is it probably illegal (violation of copyright laws), its unethical and will rightly cause your professor to kick your butt from here to Tuesday.
Reply:Are you talking doing the raw research, refining the paper and typing it up?

It can be done, but it will look like a rush job.
Reply:Yes. My biggest suggestion is to get started right now and stay focused on it. Use a lot of references and make sure and list what those references are, quotes help a lot too to help fill up the pages. Good Luck!
Reply:In college I did 16 pages overnight so I believe in you.

Somehow I got a "A".

I don't recommend making a habit out of it though.
Reply:if you have the research done - easy.

if you haven't, well, that's different.
Reply:Anything is possible. I've done it. I don't recommend it though.

Just start NOW and take a break every hour or so to rest.
Reply:Absolutely. I've done it. Do your notes. Take a break. Write an outline. Get on the computer and start typing, but make sure to take small breaks every half-hour or so, you'll need to walk away from it. Even if you have to pull an all-nighter, trust me, you can do this. It's a research paper, so you're just putting a whole bunch of information (in an organized way) together. There isn't too much thinking involved, like a Philosophy paper, or something.

Make sure to reference properly!!!

Good Luck! Trust me, you can do this!!! :)
Reply:If you have your research done then yes! otherwise good luck!

instead of asking this question you should be workign on it!! like DUH!! HELLO! wake UP!
Reply:sure, with lots of caffeine. it could be a good one, too. concentrate completely on your paper and don't stop to read Y/A. so my advice is to brew a pot of java, say "yes i can", mark my answer as best, and get to it ...now. Good Luck you can do it!
Reply:I did it in two hours. First do it in single space after 2 pages or so double space it, then WHAM its so cinematic. almost 5 pages. Just sit in front of the comp no tv, no phone, no aim, no distractions and you will be fine. GL
Reply:It is possible to do it. You've got to be VERY focused. If you start at the crack of dawn, then you have a chance. It would help if you have some of the research already done. If not, it's going take you a little bit longer. I've done papers at the last minute. They can be stressful. In the end, I've gotten "A" or "B" on them.

It is possible. You can do it. Just have to stay focused and not distracted. No breaks.

Tip: Go to the store and buy a couple of energy drinks. Eat. Turn off the TV, turn off the ringer on your phone and your cell phone and GET BUSY! Don't stop until tomorrow.
Reply:haha...i did it just last night!! lots of coffee, and ipod, and stay focused. Take notes on sources with the source at the top of the page. I do it often, so I just kinda go with it...good luck!!
Reply:yes, if you will just concentrate in what you are doing
Reply:I've done it. actually it was a 10 page paper. and i got a REALLY good grade too.

Does anyone have a topic in american history between 1820-1869 I could write a research paper on?

I have to write a research paper on any topic in US history, wars, music, sports, anything, but I don't know any interesting topics. I need some ideas.

Does anyone have a topic in american history between 1820-1869 I could write a research paper on?
I agree, any topic connected with the Civil War would be a great choice. Try to find a more specific topic within this subject to focus on (what kind of weapons were in use, Andersonville prison camp, The Confederate States of America, etc.).

Do you underline the title in a research paper?

I need to know if you need to underline or put quotations around the title b/c I'm writing a research paper, Thanks

Do you underline the title in a research paper?
It depends on what level you are. Elementary school, I think yes. High school depends on your teacher. If they want a cover page, no underlining. you just put the title and then your name underneath. If college, it depends on if its APA or MLA style research paper.
Reply:If you're referring to a title at the top of page one, it's ok to underline. You want to set it apart from the body of paper. If you're referring to a title page, there is no need to underline.
Reply:I think you should underline. Hi! Do you know the MLA format for a outline research paper?

How do I cite a website in my research paper?

How do I cite it if I take a whole paragraph from a source (website) into my research paper? I'm not talking about the works cited page. It just that I have to cite inside the actual paper. Its MLA format.

How do I cite a website in my research paper?
For Web citations, where few Web documents have page numbers, you can give either a section or paragraph number (if those exist in the document) or simply the author's last name or short title. Here are examples:

A spa chemistry expert recommends adding spa shock after using the spa "in order to help assure a sanitizer level in the water" (Schuster).

Note: If there are no page numbers, as is usual with Web documents, do not make up one or use the number one (as in "Jones 1") to cover the whole document. Use a number only when there is a number.
Reply:Put it in quotes and in parentheses put the author and website
Reply:you shouldn't take the whole paragraph....

thats called plagiarism, and its illegal.

[title]Differences in Government and Military Between Athens and Sparta[title]

[opening paragraph]Athens and Sparta were the two major city-states of Ancient Greece. Although they were both a part of the Greek nation, their ideals on government and military varied greatly. The Athenians chose direct democracy as their form of government, whilst the Spartans chose to use a monarchy with a limited oligarchy. For military actions the Athenians favored naval power, while the Spartans favored land armies. These were not the only differences between Athens and Sparta, but two of the major issues that made Sparta and Athens as different as they were. [opening paragraph]

How do you write a research paper on the history of make up?
Start with the history of make up. Egypt being the first, and then go from there.

http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewArti...
Reply:Your going to need sources to start with. Google 'history of makeup' look on wikipedia and use sources they have. Then go to the library. You might have to use regular history books and look in the index (in the back) for makeup.

Everytime you find a quote that tells something about makeup you want to include write it down on an index card along with the book, author and page number it came from.

Once you get that done your should be well on your way, ask again, email or ask your teacher/parent if you get stuck.

Good Luck!

What is a good topic for an argumentative research paper?

I have to write an eight page argumentative research paper for an online english course and I have no idea what to write it about. I also have to write a research paper proposal. I have never had to write a proposal before so I have no idea how to do that either. If anyone out there has a good topic and any help or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What is a good topic for an argumentative research paper?
Before we look at topic, let's look at proposals. They have to be quite informative and you need a structure to help you write one. Here is an idea:

*Title of Project:

Give your project a working title, which may or may not become the title of your paper

*Statement of purpose:

Explain what you hope your research will find or show. State your question or series of questions before you begin your research. Give your hypothesis and null hypothesis.

* Background:

Explain your interest in and experience with this topic. If you have personal experience that has led you to want to do more research, describe that here too.

* Significance:

Explain why this topic is worth considering, or this question or series of questions is worth answering. Answer the following questions: why should your instructor let you select this topic? what do you hope to learn from it? what will this new knowledge add to the field of knowledge that already exists on this topic? what new perspective will you bring to the topic? what use might your final research paper have for others in this field or in the general public? who might you decide to share your findings with once the project is complete?

*Description:

Describe the kind of research you will conduct to complete this project (library research, internet research, interviews, observations,)

*. Methodology:

Explain how you will conduct your research in as much detail as possible. If you plan to involve arearchwer or a librarian, explain what role they will serve and how you hope they will enhance your development of an appropriate methodology for this project. Discuss the kinds of sources you hope to consult and the methods you will use to extract and process the information you gather in as much detail as is possible at this stage.

* Problems:

Describe the problems you expect to encounter and how you hope to solve them. For example, texts might be unavailable, necessitating travel to other libraries or use of inter-library loan facilities; people you had hoped to interview might be unavailable or unwilling to participate, necessitating that you select other interviewees or change the focus; internet sites might be down or no longer available, etc.

Your hypothesis statement is what you hope to prove with your arguments. A typical one would be:

Women should not be allowed to have abortions any later the four months into their pregnancy.

A null hypothesis is what you hope not to prove:

Women should be allowed to have abortions after four months of pregnancy.

This kind of good if you find you cannot prove your hypothesis, the original hypothesis becomes the null hypothesis.

The world is full of problems to solve, not to mention just here in the USA. I would pick one that interests you. Here are some hot topics:

*Allowing Alaskans to hunt wolves from airplanes.

*Pulling out of Iraq

*abortion rights

*Stem cell research

*Global warming

*Solving the energy crisis

*The government should offer universal health care.

*Population control

*Hydrogen is or is not a valuable energy source for cars.

*Cloning humans is a good idea or not.

*Illegal immigrants should be granted visas or not.

*The Patriot Act interferes with personal freedoms or not.

*The huge budget deficit will impact our children's future or not.

These are just a few of the topics that are important in the world. I tried to give you stuff that has enough information you can find and is significant to people.
Reply:First go to the writing resource center from Purdue University or the University of NC Chapel Hill and look up research papers and research proposal. A good topic is one that has two points of view that you can research and analyze. It should not be too broad. Instead of Capital Punishment, think in terms of Capital Punishment for teenagers. Instead of Abortion think of Late Term Abortion, Instead of Alternate forms of energy, research ONE such as windpower. A really good paper writing program is StyleEase. If you are just starting college it would be worth the money many times over.
Reply:Well, there are lots, abortion, plastic surgery, adoption, weight issues, corporal punishment, smoking, child discipline, george bush...etc.....
Reply:One that I did was on health care cost in America vs free health care in other places in the world. I got an A+ :)

Who should i write a research paper about?

I'm taking music appreciation, and I can't decide who to write my research paper on. I have to have five verifiable sources of information and I have to write at least five pages. Here are my instructions:

Reply:well Jonothan Larsen, who created Rent, umm Mozart, Bach..........The beatles, my #1 would deff be JONOTHAN LARSEN!
Reply:I say Mozart or Lionel Richie, or that guy who created jazz music
Reply:I love classical music, so I would think a paper on Frederic Chopin would be very interesting. He was pivotal in the transition to the Romantic era of music. His life was quite exciting, you could cover his travels from Poland to France and his homesickness; and his relationship with Georges Sand. Chopin revolutionized the piano. From the 19th century to today, Chopin influenced the music of countless composers, among them Scriabin and Rachmaninov. No man has ever composed so passionately and intensely for any instrument, as Chopin did.

What is a good Research Paper topic for an English paper with a theme of "love"?

I have to write a research paper and the topic has to be related to "love" in some way. I want something that will be fairly easy to research though.

What is a good Research Paper topic for an English paper with a theme of "love"?
How about a theme of love and self destruction - love gone wrong? There are tons of sources and research on women and men who've ruined their lives or the lives of others - in the name of love -even in the Bible. Example being David and Bathsheba - a king, a man of God who started a war just to kill off that woman's husband - clearing the path for their love.
Reply:How about Shakespeare's constant theme of distorted love. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, when two youngsters from warring families fall in love. Or Hamlet, where Hamlet's mother Gertrude supposedly loves her son but does nothing to stop Claudius from manipulating Hamlet. Or in a Midsummer Night's Dream, where love is more of a spell than a feeling. You could take three or four of his works and come up with a thesis about how Shakespeare uses the concept of love and inverts it in a way that fuels the tragedies he writes.
Reply:You can survey TV series of today and come up with a thesis statement on how love is perceived nowadays as illustrated by these TV series. If not TV series, then maybe movies of a certain period, say 1980s or 2000 onwards; or songs, if music seems to be your interest.
Reply:Wuthering Heights- the different themes of love in there have plenty of material for a paper.
Reply:Courtly love in the Middle Ages. Lots of information, everything from Lancelot and Guinevere to troubadours. Also look for Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was queen of both France and England. She pretty much invented the concept.

Does neone know were i can get an example of a research paper with works cited?

I just need to really see an example of research paper if thats more easier to understand.

Does neone know were i can get an example of a research paper with works cited?
There are many different ways to cite references. Are you using APA or MLA formatting for your essay? Within the formatting there are different ways to reference different types of sources. A citation from a book would look different than say a citation of a personal conversation, or even a newspaper article. This is probably going to require that you do more research than asking Yahoo Answers. You should read about academic writing...

Try this website, it might help you.

Is ANYTHING in your own words when writing a college research paper?

I have to write an argumentative research paper, and this is really the first one Ive done. I was just alittle confused about how to write it. I was just wondering is there anything in the paper that isn't going to be from a book/quote? Or the whole paper is pretty much a group of organized quotes?

Is ANYTHING in your own words when writing a college research paper?
yes, the argument should be your own, the quotes are just supposed to be evidence that support what you are saying.
Reply:Well, you are supposed to use quotes, but you should already have an argument that you came up with yourself and that you defend in your own words, the quotes are just there to support your view. Your paper can't be entirely made up of other's quotes.
Reply:I think Quotes are necessary and at the same time you must write things in your own words. It all depends how much you can quote.
Reply:Most of it should be your own words. You can use organized quotes as "spice."
Reply:organized quotes supported by your opinion and the opinion of others. show their idea, show yours, show which is better, which is pratical, etc.
Reply:Research papers are written by using various resources related to that topic..You should collect data regarding your topic by usually using "valid".resources. These valid resources should be reasonable such as government websites, educational websites, academic resources, and so on.(wikipedia is not accepted by many professors because it is user created site).

About quotes there are direct quotes and indirect quotes. Indirect quotes are the ones which you make your own sentences for example you read a resource and you see some sentences important.. You don't use the same sentence. You change it either use different words or indirect sentences or so on. and you use the citation which source you got it from..(Look for APA style)

There are direct quotes which you use the same sentences with indicating resource. But this is not liked by many professors.

My suggestion is when you use your references just make it your own sentence because otherwise it may be processed as plagiarism. You need to indicate your resources depending on which writing style you use.

Good luck.
Reply:Yeah, I just wrote one. Make your opinion and find facts to support it. If you're using note cards, write the ideas you have on them and put "self" in the corner. make sure your'e evidence supports your theory. If it proves it wrong, don't be afraid to change your opinion in the paper.
Reply:i would say it´s more your interpretation of the answer.

It doesn´t mean that you create it all yourself.

It usually involves a lot of quotes and explanations but you must have a reference guide where you inform the marker where these quotes are taken from
Reply:i think u should add in a little of ur own words in there as well...

How do you do a Proposal on a topic for a research paper?
Elements of a research proposal and report

http://www.statpac.com/research-papers/r...
Reply:First, yes you should include a bibliography. Um, proposal is basicly what would you do? You have to formulate a claim about your topic. Like, if television is "bad" for children, what would you do? or if its a formidable learning tool, what would you do? You should know about the proposal youre making, what reasons you caould offer to support your proposal. and what evidence do you have that implementing your proposal will lead to the results you want. The main characteristics of proposals are that they call for action or response, often in response to a problem, they focus on the future, and they center on the audience......good luck, research papers suck

What are three topics I could use for a research paper?

We have to do a research paper on anything we want for English. I need some ideas. The paper can only be 3-4 pages long so I can't have a topic that is to broad.

What are three topics I could use for a research paper?
Compare and contrast two works. (This is really easy. Take a main or minor character from one work and compare them to another. There is a ton of research on this and it's really good for any works.)

Discuss how two characters work as foils (Complete opposites that work together. Think Han Solo ( Short guy) to Chewbacca ( Big Wookie). )

Do a controversial issue such as women's rights or immigration.
Reply:In health topics, try Tourette syndrome, it's symptoms, what having it means, what it makes you do, how it affects one's life, and any treatments for it. check the library, it's got it all.

plants- perinneal's verses annuals-( cats claw ) is an interesting plant as it's used for medicinal purposes as well as for a hardy vine.

music- how it affects our mood, our behaviour.
Reply:new info on Edgar Allan Poe suggests that the stories about his drug use are untrue - written by enemies ( well, i DID read that)

pack any writer you like - write about how his/her life or childhood is reflected in his/her worrk
Reply:The question should be what are you interested in, that's what you write your paper on, I think your teacher will be looking more at your writing and research skills than what the actual topic is. Good Luck
Reply:1. The first thing you need to do is to choose the right research paper topic because it is the key to a successful writing and strong mark. Try to find a narrow topic for your work.

2. Information is the necessary part of research paper writing. It can be found in libraries and on the Internet through search engines and online resources.

3. Thesis writing is the next step in composing a research paper. It must reflect your own point of view on the topic as the entire work is aimed at supporting your thesis statement.

4. Research paper outline must include points which lead to the general topic of your work. The purpose of an outline is to organize your writing and follow these points carefully.

5. The gathered information for assignment should be organized in conformity with outline and supported with evidence from reliable sources.

6. You should write your first draft of the work. Read your notes, concentrate on the topic, and support your major idea with quotes. Organize your notes according to your outline marking them with #, or A, B, C.

7. Check your outline and the first draft. Read the paper, edit it and proofread. Check figures and quotes once again. Arrange it according to your outline.

8. Revise your research paper and check whether your work states and supports its purpose clearly.

9. Arrange all quotes following the format and style. Check your final work for spelling and punctuation.

How would I get sources for science fair when writing a research paper?

i dont know how/ understand how to write a science fair research paper. also i dont know what and how im suppose to do the bibliograph %26amp; how to get sources on my topic: are composites of wood stronger than solid wood?

How would I get sources for science fair when writing a research paper?
my guess is that the solid wood is stronger

I've broken so many desks, bought a weak *** book case, and broken other things and they were surely composites.

Besides your research, I would try to find some examples around the house, or elsewhere, yard sale, garage, good will, and try to break them.

putting certain pounds of pressure on them, and labeling them in your table, would be good for your report.

you can try wikipedia to get information on different types of wood, they'll likely give you density per certain volumes and all that, that you can use in your report. That's www.wikipedia.org

you may also want to check out some books on wood and such, because you need to have more things listed in your bibliography than just internet sites.

The format of your bibliography is important, yes, but what you choose to USE as sources is probably even more important. So use a mixture of books and websites, to start.

You can even stop by a hardware store to see if they have any pieces of literature or pamphlets on the subject, that you could potentially use as a source in your paper. (E.G. Home Depot for instance). Also, I bet they could give you a LOT of information on your topic. Trust me, they have all kinds of wood there, all shapes and sizes and they know a lot about it too
Reply:First off, you need to research composite wood (make sure you keep track of where you got the info: website, book, encyclopedia, etc)

Then research solid wood as well.

When you found your information, type it up without plagarising (sic) and then go to citationmachine.net (or org, I can't remember) and it'll help you create your bibliography.

What would be a good title for my Grapes of Wrath research paper?

I am doing a research paper on the Grapes of Wrath.

My topic is the connection between the novel and Christianity.

I am thinking of the title The Biblical Joads

But do you guys have any other ideas?

What would be a good title for my Grapes of Wrath research paper?
I am doing the Grapes of Wrath too! How funny! umm...the title really isn't that big of a deal it is more of the paper. I would concentrate more on the paper than the Title. I know my teacher doesn't even read the title because it just isn't important. But if you have to have a good one that sounds good to me what you have right there. or Christianity within the Joads or Christianity within the Migrants or something.

What should the subject of my research paper be?

I plan on doing a research paper which focuses on rain forests.

What would be better:

presenting information on the broader topic of the destruction of the rain forests(which would mean writing about the various causes, effects, and ways of reduction),

or

presenting information regarding the biodiversity of the rain forests, which would mean looking at various species (including their behavior, appearance, etc, etc, etc).

I'm pretty sure I will do the paper on biodiversity, however, I am just curious as to other opinions.

Oh...the paper is 20-30 pages.

What should the subject of my research paper be?
I like your idea about researching the biodiversity of rain forests. You may want to focus on the rain forests of a particular region eg. Brazil, Australia, etc.

Don't forget to make use of your local library Web site (public or college) to complete your research. Libraries make available a variety of databases for finding articles from magazines, journals, etc.

Example databases: Science Full Text Select, ProQuest, Ebsco, SIRS, etc.

Can I combine research in two separate classes for each of those classes research paper?

I have two fairly long research papers due this semester. One is for Environmental Politics the other for Lobbies and Interest Groups. Can I use research from my Environmental Politics paper to help write my Lobbies and Interest Groups paper? Furthermore, can I uses selections from my first paper within my second paper. I don't intend to use the same paper twice, they are both very different assignments. Some information is applicable to both however. Is this considered cheating or plagirism? It is all my work after all.

Can I combine research in two separate classes for each of those classes research paper?
It's probably not a problem, but I would reccomend asking both professors what they think of this to make sure they're okay with it.

What theory can I use for my research paper?

I am conducting a research for my thesis paper entitled "Responsiveness of the Journalism Curriculum to the Current Demands of the Profession". What theory can I use best for my study's framework if it intends to show that "the curriculum or education should adapt to changes in the profession so that it will be more responsive and therefore significant"?

What theory can I use for my research paper?
First, I think you mean 'significant and therefore more responsive'...

...Second, I believe that the corriculum has adapted a little slowly (depending on where you live), but is adapting nonetheless.

Sorry. Looks like you're doomed.

Here's one opinion I found, (no name attached):

During the 19th Century there were 5 panics 1819, 1837, 1857, 1873 and 1893. Each of those was preceded by growth in the money supply (gold), but that was not the problem as much as the combination of un-backed notes issue and uncontrolled credit expansion by the certain banks. In addition, many banks were basically resorting to inflating the un-backed note issue at a ratio of 7 to 1 through the use of what we know as fractional reserve or the issuance of paper money without corresponding reserve backing. Now the numbers of panics of the 19th Century pale in comparison to those we have suffered under the Federal Reserve System. There have actually been 3 Depressions in the 20th Century; the first was in 1920-1921, the next was 1929-1933 and the next was 1937-1938. There were sharp Recessions: 1923-1924, 1948-1949,1953-1954, 1957-1958, 1973-1975, and 1981-1982. 1987. Then there were 7 mild Recessions: 1926-1927, 1960-1961, 1969-1970, 1980, 1990-1991, 1999 and then 2001 brought on by the events of 9/11. Not the best record for a system touted to bring security and stability to the economy of this country, would you say? None of that however, will compare to what will happen when the system reaches its terminal point. A few years ago the system reached its practical possible lifespan and it now moving into that period that can be called its maximum possible lifespan. At one time the economy could maintain itself even when interest rates were in the double digits however, that is no longer the case. Now, as we have seen, it is exhibiting difficulty tolerating what would once be considered minor rate increases.

So, vote for Ron Paul, and scare yourself good and proper by googling 'Ambrose Evans-Pritchard' and reading everything he has written on the US and world economy.

Next go and buy as much bullion as you can. And some chickens and a pig and a gun.

How do you get the perfect thesis statement for a research paper?

There is a research paper about the potato famine in my humanities class and all I have to do left is the thesis statement, which is what I horrible at. I know what a thesis statement has and all, but I cannot seem to round up all the ideas together. It takes me one hour to have a O.K. thesis statement. I am not kidding. Thesis statements are my worst enemies. Somebody please tell me what you do to for steps to a fantastic thesis statement. Maybe I could try it. Please do not give me vague advice.

How do you get the perfect thesis statement for a research paper?
Do all your research, then write the paper (more pages than you'll need).... then create a thesis statement that sums up your research clearly and consiseley after the paper is written. At that point you start revising to make the research paper clear and logical in relation to your thesis statement.
Reply:Erm, if you don't want vague advice, you shouldn't ask a vague question.

It's hard to give any specific help to you when I don't know what point you are making about the potato famine in your paper.

Having said that, I would suggest that you basically take your conclusion and one of the arguments against it (one that you address and disprove in your paper) and say something like:

"Although such theories as [argument against conclusion] have been proposed, the evidence that the potato famine was [your conclusion] is the more compelling.

'course, I partied my way right out the university doors, so consider the source.
Reply:Write down in another piece of paper...: "I will prove that" then write what you will prove in your paper. The thing is that on the paper you need to turn in you will never write "I will prove that" it just sounds wrong so just think of it and write it down.
Reply:I'm working on a research paper too. This site works wonders. Hope it helps!

What would be a well written thesis/introduction for a research paper about Genocides?

I need help with writing a thesis/introduction for my research paper on Genocides. Please help me. Please anyone.

What would be a well written thesis/introduction for a research paper about Genocides?
That the word exists at all is probably a form of condemnation in itself -but if a Volcano erupts and kills a million people this is NOT genocide-but what do you do about BOTH? That someone believes in the power of terror to create conformity we might agree is an absolute wrong. For to slaughter in order to 'improve' -is as wrong or as misguided as a person or group might be. So how would you fight it? Someone determined to wipe out a religion, a tribe or a race is difficult to approach to suggest otherwise. So there is plenty to research.
Reply:A well written thesis introduction will identify the proposition clearly, set out the scope (and any limitations) and where necessary define the terms you are using. A quotation which is thought-proviodking (something from Mein Kampf or Wannasee, possibly) or the fact that genocide contnues to happen and the world does very little (and even then for questionable motives) eg Cambodia, Iraq and Rwanda would help place your work into context.

Can anyone help me with a thesis statement for a research paper on missing adolescents?

I'm doing a research paper on adolescents that run away but I can't think of a thesis statement. Can someone please help me?

Can anyone help me with a thesis statement for a research paper on missing adolescents?
Well a thesis of any dissertation involves YOUR feelings on the subject. Eg is it a major problem, do we need to do something about it....why do you want to write the paper..

how does it affect you, personally, ideologically, ect.

Once you know WHY you want to write the paper, the thesis statement will come out more naturally. A Thesis statement is not the topic itself, but why the topic is important, what it means to you and what you have to say about it.

Eg: The Number of teenage runaways in America has reached Epidemic proportions. Unless the family unit returns to more tradition values, this problem will continue to escalate with dire consequences for the future of the United States.
Reply:OK, how about this:

Have you ever thought about running away from home? Millions of teens have thought about it and millions more actually have run away from home to try and escape their problems.
