I have to write a research paper on any topic in US history, wars, music, sports, anything, but I don't know any interesting topics. I need some ideas.

I agree, any topic connected with the Civil War would be a great choice. Try to find a more specific topic within this subject to focus on (what kind of weapons were in use, Andersonville prison camp, The Confederate States of America, etc.).
