Does anyone have any tips on doing a research paper?

I'm doing a research paper for history, and I'm finding it really difficult. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to organize information, how to outline, how to write with a serious tone, how to cut out redundant information, etc.

Thanks!

This is the Bible for research writing.
Reply:I would pick a topic that has a lot of information. I chose Hitler for college. I looked at an outline in the encyclopedia and got an idea on how to organize my paper. I didn't use the encyclopedia for any information for fear of plagiarism. I didn't actually start writ ting the paper until a week before it was due. Instead I would jot down things I wanted to include. I would also jot down quotes that I wanted to use. After my rough draft I would have it proof read by at least 2 people. I make the corrections and re-read it myself.
Reply:Uhm.

1.Brainstorm on ideas

2. Research on ideas [the more the merrier. This is better than being redundant.]

3. TAKE NOTES. [very impt.]

4. Create an outline for your paper [usually I. introduction, II. body, III. conclusion]

and for the serious tone thing, remember to SPEAK IN THIRD PERSON and to not use fancy words. Remember that your paper is for informing readers about your research. Sometimes when a basic word is enough, you don't need to find synonyms for it.
