What short story should I do my research paper on?

I have to do a 10 pg research paper on any short story of my choice. The only restrictions are that it has to be by and american born writer. Please give my some good ideas of good stories that i will be able to write a lot about.

What short story should I do my research paper on?
Here is a list where you can browse literally hundreds of stories. I personally recommend The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula Le Guin or Stephen Crane's A Dark Brown Dog or my personal favorite The Artist of the Beautiful by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I love all three and many more. But browse. There are just so many. Maybe something will catch your eye. Pax-C

Reply:I like the short story "A%26amp;P" by John Updike. Even though the setting was around 1960's, it relates well to modern times. The subtle humor also makes it very enjoyable. Although the story is quite short, a lot of analysis can be made.

And maybe, if possible, you can compare this story with William Faulkner's "Barn Burning." Both have a related theme.
Reply:'Daisy Miller' by Henry James. A heroine of endearing innocence is used to contrast American and European manners. The fate that befalls innocence in a devious and sophisticated world could be your theme. The story is long enough for you to find enough to write about and is easy to read.
Reply:Anything by Ernest Hemmingway, his stories are packed with detail and hidden meaning. They would be cake to write a ten page on. The Old Man and the Sea is a good novella, but if that is too long, Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean Well-lIghted place are good ones. But he wrote like a million so just check um out on wikipedia
Reply:How about "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner. He's an American author, and I just did my research paper on that short story.
Reply:Anything by Arthur C. Clark , Stephen King , or Joseph Conrad . They are a very diverse group , but all great short story writers .
Reply:There are MANY excellent short stories by O'Henry. One that I enjoyed was called something like The Gift of the Magi.
