I am doing a research paper on the hypothesis: Women make the majority of the purchases or influence the majority of what is purchased in the household. And I am struggling to find any backup data to support my thesis. Does anyone know where to find statistics, etc online or in books/magazines to help me out?

Try going to your school library and talking to a reference librarian. He or she should be able to direct you to a lot of different resources, many of which you'll be able to view online through electronic databases to which your school subscribes.
