I need help choosing a thesis statement for my research paper on gastric bypass?
My sister had this surgery several years ago. I know getting rid of the weight has helped her, but it has caused physical problems too.

After the surgery, she had an infection and was in the hospital for a long time.

She could not eat much at one time, and if she ate too much, she would be in pain and throw up.

After she lost the weight, the did a tummy tuck and a year later, surgery to remove the extra skin of her thighs. She got another infection and was in the hospital and housebound for months. When they removed the skin of her thighs, they also removed some of her lymph glands. Now her legs are always tender and swollen, because the fluid has no where to go. She is also more sucsecptible to infections.

Just 3 weeks ago, something happened with the actual bypass. When they did it, they re-routed where her intestine meets her stomach. The intestine went through something to meet her stomach (I think they routed the small intestine through a hole in her large intestine, but I was not there when this was explained, so I do not know for sure.) Anyway, something herniated and she had to have more surgery to repair that. The dr said if she hadn't gotten to the hospital quickly, she would have developed blood poisoning and died.

Scary, huh?

As a large person (not as large as she was) I gave thought to this surgery. Seeing all she has been through, I will never do it. Too much pain and danger.

Reply:Just one point that I have for gastric bypass is to look at the long term affects of this surgery. Look at what harm it can cause the body.
