What are some pros and cons about rain forest destruction? I am doing a research paper on it?

I am doing a research paper on the rainforest and i need to know some pros and cons about it and also if continued the rainforest destruction will effect my future!

What are some pros and cons about rain forest destruction? I am doing a research paper on it?
Pros: mahogany desks and lawn furniture.

Cons: death of humanity due to loss of species, destabilization of river valley ecosystems, and loss of oxygen production capacity.

It looks like your future is bright indeed! The adults are geniuses dear! Now go fix what mommy and daddy's generation were too selfish to do anything about. Good luck!
Reply:as much as i hate to say it , there are a few pros, but none of them are of much benefit over the long term and the cons are much, much worse in the short term.

cutting the wood for fuel to cook food and make charcoal to sell is one reason why the poor in south America cut the trees in the rain forest. they also use a farming system called 'slash and burn' because they cannot afford better methods. while these are bad for the rain forest this is survival for many of the tribal folks in the tropics.

also, cutting the rain forest for cattle grazing save Americans a few cents a pound on the beef they get from south America.

the way to stop these practices is to help organizations that are trying to improve the quality of life and farming methods for the poor in south America and by consuming less beef, especially that imported from south American countries like Argentina. McDonald's? ask them and see!

i agree with the cons that have already been given you by the other answerers.
Reply:There are really no pros, besides financial gain, to rain forest destruction. The rain forest is a natural habitat to an increible amount of species and destrying the rain forest is devasting to their ecosystem. Not to mention the oxygen that is lost from the destruction of trees.
Reply:Pros: land that was once preoccupied is now available for developing/farming. The destroyed trees are now a fuel source for the native populations. Upset tree huggers =).

Cons: proposals to use taxpayer money to help people who won't help us, nor even listen most likely, unrest concerning the deaths of undiscovered plant species that supposedly may benefit the medical community (which I must ask, how many tropical plants cure diseases?), blaming private citizens for events which they have no control over, another reason for liberals to meddle in economics, a small amount of CO2 emissions, a lack of trees for future cutting and burning, the deaths of undiscovered insect and plant species, which in turn make botanists and other similar scientists cry themselves to sleep.

yes, the cons outweigh the pros because the public reaction to the idea comprises most of the cons.
Reply:Some cons are that humans will lose oygen, new plants that could be new medicine, the animals and plants cold all die, and itll just be bad.

The pros are really nothing good except people have more buildings, etc. to get money.
