How would I cite my source for a research paper, that came from an essay?

I am using Henry David Thoreau's essay, "Civil Disobedience" as one of my sources for a research paper. Is there a specific way of citing a source that came from an essay rather than a book or website or newspaper, etc.?

so I suppose you would just the title of the essay and wherever you got the essay from.
Reply:Ok, this is just an example. But say you were using To kill a mockingbird as an example.

Author. (year published). Title -in italics. State published: company that published.

Resource Citation Formats:

Viewpoint Essay Example -

Name of peron who wrote essay. Name of essay you are using.

Your title of essay.

Reply:You can check the MLA or Chicago book of Style for the official means; but

Author, {ital} name of work, (if published in a newspaper or journal its name), year written/publish

but if you do foot or end notes, give the page, line or other means of saying THIS IS WHERE I GOT THIS
