Help analyzing my audience for research paper?

I have to write a proposal for my research paper on how drugs and alcohol are glamorized in the media, and the first step is to analyze the audience- which i decided to be parents of younger children. But I'm having trouble starting this analysis, can anyone give me some tips/help? Would be greatly appreciated!

How young are the children? If you are addressing parents of teenagers, then the audience is going to be more directly involved (imagine giving a speech to your fellow classmates if you are a teen yourself)...whereas, if the parents have younger children, ex. in middle school, then your content can be less urgent.

Example: Speaking to a crowd of middle schoolers (or even their parents) about substance abuse is not going to be as harsh as a speech to high school students/or their parents, since the drugs and alcohol are more prominent among high school students. (Middle school parents are worrying about how to shelter their kids from drugs while they still have control, whereas high school parents have less control over their older teenagers).

Hope this helps!
Reply:These are some questions you have to ask about the audience.

Who will be interested in the information you gather, and why?

What do you know about their backgrounds?

What will they want to know? What do they already know?

What response do you want to elicit from them?

What assumptions might they hold about the topic?

What kinds of evidence will you need to convince them of your view?

What will your supervisor or instructor expect?

Hope that helps!
