About how long should a research paper be?

I'm writing a research paper on Jim Morrison, and I was just wondering about how long they are supposed to be. I'm home schooled, so I basically assigned this to myself. lol.

After reading so many questions here on YA Homework Help I'm impressed to see someone trying to learn rather than find a shortcut. Way to go.

Your question is difficult to answer without some specifics. If it's a term paper for a college English class the length would be set by your instructor. They simply want to grade the proper construction of the term paper for all the rules that go into writing one, grammar and documentation for a start. This can usually be done in 4 to 6 pages. The instructor is looking for you to pick a limited enough topic to cover given the limits on length. Hence, you would not want to try to cover the American revolution in five pages.


If you want to write a term paper on Jim it will probably about 487 pg. I'll look for it in the library :-) I googled Mr. Morrison, there seemed to be a magnitude of literary works in the numbers that give google it's name. I don't expect you want your term paper to read like a summery.

Reply:I don't think it has to be really long. Most papers I write are 2 or 3 pages. Usually they are about 750 words. My teachers tell me to write enough to cover the subject. I usually write 5 or 6 good paragraphs. Just follow your instincts.
Reply:We did a research paper in English that was 3.5-5 pages. But if you have more to write about...go ahead and write about it!!
Reply:I would suggest 5-7 pages because beyond that would be a little too long and less than that would be too little, unless you are really consice in saying what you want to say
