When writing a research paper, how much perecent of the paper should be direct quotations?

I am doing an English research paper for my 9th grader Honors class, so give me some suggestions about this. Please include a website if used in your answer. Remember a website is always the best information!

When writing a research paper, how much perecent of the paper should be direct quotations?
Less than 10%. It gets annoying to the reader if half of the paper is just quotations.

Maybe every other paragraph can contain one quotation, and it's ok to have a lengthy quotation, set aside with indents if necessary, but only do this very sparingly also.
Reply:5-10% of the paper. However, even these percentages maybe misleading. It all depends on the length of the paper.

Too many quotes make the paper look plagarized!
