What questions should be covered in doing a research paper on a country?

I'm doing a research paper on Portugal for extra credit in a class of mine. The only catch was, he didn't tell us anything of what to write in it. So what questions or topics should be answered while writing the paper?

It overall information on the country.

What questions should be covered in doing a research paper on a country?
You could focus on portuguese history, Portugal was the first european country to explore the open sea, the first to build a Global Empire that stretched from Africa to Brazil, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, China, and Japan (there's a nice topic, the portuguese were the first europeans to reach Japan, in 1543, it was a cultural shock for the japanese and had a profound influence on japanese culture, the portuguese introduced the firearm and to this day there are several japanese words that derive from the portuguese language), almost 100 years before Columbus (that by the way was married to a portuguese woman whose father was one of the early open sea explorers, Columbus learned everything he knew about sailing with Portugal).

Basically, with the discovery of the sea route to India in 1488, Portugal created Globalization.
Reply:The main points should cover form of government and economic health of the country. Then I would cover education. Next, geography of the country. Finally, basis stats, like population, etc.
Reply:popuilation, Big cities, inports and outports, customs, religons, race, obucation, geographics of the land, bodys of water, ect. ect.
