How should I start my research paper out?

I have to write a research paper on Russia for part of a project we're doing in history, but I have writers block. I have all the information I need, and I'll done fine once I get started, but I just don't know how to start off my report. Does anyone have any ideas?

How should I start my research paper out?
You haven't mentioned what you're going to writing about on Russia. People can't give ideas for starting it out without enough information about what your topic is going to be other than the obvious that it has to do with Russia.

Nobody can give you any advice without that information.

Is it meant to be informative, or just research?

When writing you should consider

1. Purpose

2. Audience

3. Tone

You need to provide more information about what your assignment is and the purpose, so people can give you ideas to help began your paper.
Reply:Start off with something that is interesting, and will hook your audience.

Ex.: The largest country in the world,Russia,is 1.8 times bigger than the U.S.
Reply:The strong influence the government has in the economical and sociolinguistic aspects of Russian society.

EDIT:

Duh.....that is a thesis.

Maybe you should just do your homework, since you have all the materials. That's not "writer's block", you're suffering from the common ailment called LAZINESS.
Reply:Put your information onto note cards. Then divide your note cards into subjects. Put subject headings down and write your information under each subject heading.

Do an intro and a conclusion. Done!
