What I want to try to prove is that knowledge based on observation, is simply knowledge based on observation and that observation can only be based on perception, of which, perception is not an absolute. Perception can be flawed, therefore our knowledge can be flawed. So, how do we "know" what we believe we "know"?
So, how would I go about writing this type of research paper? What philosphers or concepts would I reference, and what would be some arguements against my stance that I would have to provide rebuttals for?
How do I write a good philosophy research paper?
To understand the lairs in perception, you have to have multiple perceptions of your own. If you do percieve something that someone else percieves differently you just proved the slight of hand in perception, revealing the flaw, and can now make an argument about flaws in observation knowledge. You can take an easy example, the perception of god. Every religion and person has some perception of this concept and claim there perception of god is perfect. Add in perfection is in the eye of the beholder, so you can take what religous people see and then point out the differences in there perceptions, point out the flaws in that perception and there you go. You would have to look at multiple religions for this and then figure out there flaws, easier said than done.
Another argument is the observation of a lie, illusions, or false knowledge. You might be able to swing the world is flat observation, how slavery was thought to be acceptable to some, or many other scientiffic observations over the years that have been unlearned. ( The more dark or touchy the subject the better you will be during rebuttals, no one wants to argue slavery, but be carefull with god philosophies, they can back fire if your not careful )
How do you know what you believe you know? When all differen't perceptions of an observation come to a single truth or knowldge that can't be denied. Example, the world is round, there is a sun, you yourself are now alive. The key to observation knowledge is to have multiple observations by many observers with differen't perceptions.
As of arguments rebuttals, try to write you paper in a way that has logic traps, like using the world is flat with a the world is round counter. Poke as many holes in your own work, then fill it all in. As of philosophers or concepts I do not know.
Philosophy is one of those things that a simple mind can over complicate as well as a complicated mind can simplify. Work your paper in a spot that acknowledges those types of perceptions and you will be better off. If all else fails, paradoxical logic can help if used correctly. Example: how many perceptions does it take to get an exact truth from observation knowledge, there is no logical answer, only guesses based on scenarios, leaving you open to place harder scenarios in there that no one wants to argue, like the god concept, you can argue about god forever, look at the human race and understand that.
I hope something in here helps.
Reply:Ever hear of the story about the 5 blind men and the elephant? None of them had any knowledge of an elephant so they tried to understand what it was. Each approached the elephant from a different direction. The first took hold of the elephant's tail and said "now I understand, the elephant is like a rope." The second took hold of the elephant's ear and said "no brother, the elephant is like a great fan." The third took hold of the elephant's leg and said "how can you be so silly the elephant is like a tree trunk." The fourth took hold of the elephant's trunk and said "no no the elephant is like a hose." And the fifth walking into the elephant's side said "but you all must admit that the elephant is like a great wall."

Can you include lists in a research paper?
I am doing a research paper on going green. I was wondering if I could include a list of the hazards of global warming. Can you do that in a research paper? Does every single thing have to be in paragraph form?

What does it mean when a professor says that your research paper is worth 35 percent of your grade?
Lets say that my grade are as follow:
80 on a quiz, 90, on a test, 100 on a quiz and a 61 on the research paper which is worth 35 percent of my grade? What will that mean? What will my final grade be then?
What does it mean when a professor says that your research paper is worth 35 percent of your grade?
It means that the research paper has more weight on your grade, a little over a third of your total grade.
The total score for the class is 100%, divide this by 3 and you will get 33.33.. . .%.
What percentage of your final grade are the quizzes and exams?
Keep me posted. . .
Reply:It would mean that u need to improve ur grades and ur final grade will most likely be a B if u got a 100 on everything else but agian, it depends o what your professor countes everything else as part of ur grade.
Reply:Probably somewhere in the B family (low B, high B, something like that)
Reply:Basically this research paper will make or break your overall grade for the class. If you do well, your grade for the course might do well. If you do lousy, all your other grades better be awesome to do well for the course.
Reply:It depends on the weight of the other categories. 35% of your grade is a lot. Assume that tests are worth 40% of your grade, and quizzes 25%. Then your final grade would be:
Quiz: 80 + 100 = 90 avg x 25%= 22.50
Test: 90 x 40% = 36
Paper: 61 x 35% = 21.35
22.50+36+21.35=79.85 average for the class.

What questions should be covered in doing a research paper on a country?
I'm doing a research paper on Portugal for extra credit in a class of mine. The only catch was, he didn't tell us anything of what to write in it. So what questions or topics should be answered while writing the paper?
It overall information on the country.
What questions should be covered in doing a research paper on a country?
You could focus on portuguese history, Portugal was the first european country to explore the open sea, the first to build a Global Empire that stretched from Africa to Brazil, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, China, and Japan (there's a nice topic, the portuguese were the first europeans to reach Japan, in 1543, it was a cultural shock for the japanese and had a profound influence on japanese culture, the portuguese introduced the firearm and to this day there are several japanese words that derive from the portuguese language), almost 100 years before Columbus (that by the way was married to a portuguese woman whose father was one of the early open sea explorers, Columbus learned everything he knew about sailing with Portugal).
Basically, with the discovery of the sea route to India in 1488, Portugal created Globalization.
Reply:The main points should cover form of government and economic health of the country. Then I would cover education. Next, geography of the country. Finally, basis stats, like population, etc.

What should the title of my research paper be?
I'm taking this class and I need to do a research paper which is due at the end of the semester and the students can choose whatever they want to do it on but it has to make sense and sound really neat. I was going to do mine on muscle development and exercising because I was going to find out more about how exercising can increase muscle, etc. So anybody have any suggestions on any sophisticated titles for the research? All I can think of is "Muscle development and Exercise.

What is a good research paper topic for George Orwell?
I need to write a research paper on George Orwell relating to his books: "1984" and "Keep the Aspidistra Flying". I've read both books and understand them both, but I cant come up with a topic to research. Please only post actual topic questions, rather than suggestions.
What is a good research paper topic for George Orwell?
George Orwell was considered at the time of writing as rather "out there" as far as his vision of the future. Now, he is considered prophetic by many. An interesting topic would be to compare several items that Orwell "foretold" by his writings and show how his vision has been realized or how it shortly will be realized by present day societies.
Reply:I've only read 1984, but you might want to research his political views and opinions. Write about how they influenced his writing. Like I know that 1984 is supposed to be anti-communist and a fictional version of the Soviet Union's government under Lenin (or Stalin--can't remember which).
Reply:Gosh... I would probably write on how much his writing style improved from one of his first novels to his most important. "Keep the Aspidistra Flying" is pretty terrible.
I would probably write on the importance of the female love interest to the plot/message of the novel. Actually, I think that is the best.
Compare/Contrast Julia's role to the woman in Aspidistra (I forgot her name)

How can a High School Student get a research paper published?
I am going into my junior year of high school and I wrote a research paper dealing with computer programming and the mathematics of shuffling playing cards. I would like to get it published some how.
How can a High School Student get a research paper published?
The first thing you need to do is figure out where you want to publish it. There are thousands of journals out there, so you should be able to find a few that the subject would be appropriate for. I'll list a few below I found in a quick Google search.
You don't need to have a degree to publish in these journals, but you'll be at a bit of a disadvantage without one - you don't have an adviser to help you write the paper and check it over for you. I suggest you talk to your teacher about getting in touch with a local college professor (4-year college, community probably won't help) about seeing if your work is worth publishing. There is so much out there already, there's a decent chance it's already been done, or that it's not worth a full publication on.
Once you've located a journal, they'll have instructions for how to write up your article and submit it. Make sure you follow the guidelines, or they won't bother reading it. Some will take them in Word Doc form, others require specific formats, such as LaTeX.
After you submit it, the editor will read it over and either reject it outright (in which case you can submit it to another journal) or send it out for peer review, which means someone in the field will read it and give you comments - and decide if it will be published in the journal. This process can take several months, so be patient. Only submit to one journal at a time.
Here's a few journals you can start with. Read over some of the papers they've published to get an idea of how to write your own. And you'll need a reference list for the journals if you don't have one already. Good luck!

What are some potential topics for a research paper?
I have to write a research paper of up to fifteen pages on any topic about the Holocaust. I really want to find something that is different and interesting to research. As well as still be credible in a college level class.
What are some potential topics for a research paper?
You could follow one nationality through the time period and see how they were involved in the Holocaust. How were they viewed by the Jews? What is their status now in those countries. For example, my family is 1/2 Ukrainian and I have heard that they were used a lot as guards in the prison camps...forced into service, so that in the early 50's there was an acknowledgement of some pretty deeply seated anger against Ukrainians. Any stories of freedom fighters or underground activity among that ethnic group?

talk about the situation in iraq- specifically winning the hearts and minds of the people in order to create stability.

Reply:You should write about the grass-roots peace/political action group CodePink. Check them out at www.codepinkalert.org. You'll be glad that you did!
Reply:You could write about your Governor, Arnold Schwartznegger, about any major changes he's made in CA politics or maybe how he, as a former actor, was elected governor of the state. Not only will this teach you more about how our system works, you will know more about your own state. Or if you find a particular ballot measure he was instrumental in bringing about, you could do it on that.

What is the best way to write a long research paper?
I am writing a 10 page paper for my Anthropology course and I am having trouble keeping everything organized. I have tons of notes and sources but am having problems organizing it before I start the actual writing. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to keep my notes organized and make the process go easier since I already did the hard part of the research.
What is the best way to write a long research paper?
Approach this paper like building a house. Write down four or five solid topics. Those are your corner beams. Write down three subtopics under each one. The rest is just plugging in research points (drywall).
By the time you do this, you just need to write your way through this information, smoothing everything out (plaster and spackling). Then proofread (paint).
Most people call this an "outline" but I like to think of it as a blueprint... get the picture? Most of the students I tutored recieved A's whenever they conscientiously applied this technique, and they were amazed at how easy it is to finish the paper once these steps are taken. I am always amazed at how bad papers can be when written without a clear structure from the beginning- imagine building a house this way- it would look like a friggin BEAVER DAM!
Reply:Start with an idea of where you're going with it and what topics you will discuss. You should be able to start with an introduction that gives an indication of your stance and some background information without needing to rely much on your notes yet.
From there, you might do a sort of outline within the paper, but it doesn't need to be formal or very detailed--just a list of important subsections in an order that makes sense to you. If you end up with, for example, 5 subsections, then you can go through and write them as if they were 5 2-page papers. When I'm writing, I often skip some sections, leaving outline-like headings in red for where I'll go back later and write that section once I've looked up more information about it. At the end, you will want to check the whole thing to make sure the order still works best, move some things around, tweak transitions, perhaps rewrite parts of the intro if you've taken a direction you didn't expect.
Reply:Keep in mind, you will not use all your notes. You should make a list of the most important topics. Then, highlight your notes and put them into different categories (based upon your topic choices). 10 pages is not the bad... I like to start typing single spaced... then when I am close to being done, I change it to double space and I get all excited because like, 6 pages turns to 13. It will go by fast. I suggest you start it early (like a week early) and get out most of what you can. Then, 3 days before it is due, revisit it and make corrections and add the last of your data. Also, make sure you cite everything that you use. I do not know about your school, but mine is really cracking down.
Reply:Do you know how to make an outline? Outlines can really organize your info and you can follow them to write the paper.
Reply:I just finished a 9-10 page for my physical anthropology course.
By all means start with your outline, this will be the map which will give you direction and organization.

How should I start my into paragraph in my research paper for science?
I have a science project. I am determining if the type of music you listen to affects your pulse. Now I have to write a research paper on three subjects pertaining to my project. I chose the heart, the history of rock music, and how sound is made. Please keep in mink that this is a formal writing for a sixth grader in and eighth grade class and I have a picky teacher.
thanks for your help,

How should I start my into paragraph in my research paper for science?
You need some sort of attention grabber, like "Pam decides to relax after a hard day by grabbing her Ipod and listening to punk music (I can't think of a particular band...sorry). She instead discovers that she feels agitated and anxious. Could it be because of her music?" You could make it a whole lot more interesting than that, I am not very creative. Start it out like an article in a magazine by using an attention-grabbing story.

What is a good topic to write for a research paper?
I am trying to find a topic to write about for a research paper. I can't decide what to write about. Any suggestions?
What is a good topic to write for a research paper?
Choose something that interests you. You're more likely to do better research and not get bored with it, than if you randomly pick something only to find part way into it that you couldn't be less interested in that topic. Make it somewhat fun...no reason you can't learn about something you are curious about, while also getting your paper done.
Reply:Is that for a class? You need at least a theme or the subject to start with. The key to a good paper is the right topic. And the trick is to narrow down by asking a question that interests you. Then do some preliminary research to see if that question is too broad or not. Or if it makes sense at all. Then you go on. So you need to ask a question first. Have fun.
Reply:Write about were you were born, or something you're interested in, that way, you can learn more about it.
Reply:Global warming is a hot topic right now, pun intended. See Al Gore's brilliantly made movie, "An Inconvenient Truth", in theaters right now for further proof.
Reply:anything that u r interested in so that u will in joy doing the research!!!

How can I get started on a Research Paper?
I am doing research paper for my Business Class. I am researching how many hours a student works in a week. The students are employed by the Campus Recreation Center, and I would like to know if their hours worked are significant to the total number of hours the work in a week (class, homework, work). Anyone know where I can find some resources on student workload?
How can I get started on a Research Paper?
Go to the campus library and also go to the CDC ( Career Development Center), they probably have information about that type of stuff.

How do you write a research paper for science class?
I have to write a research paper and I don't know how... Is it like a report where I summarize or paraphrase something, or is it something more?
How do you write a research paper for science class?
I have to write a research prospectus in my class. This is like an experiment you will conduct to prove something. We state a problem to be studied. You make a hypothesis, or guess, and then attempt to prove or disprove the hypothesis. This is master's level so you may not have to do this much.
In the paper you state the problem, its significance. Then you state the independent variable, dependent variable, and any controls you use. The independent variable is not changed by anything. The dependent variable changes depending on the independent variable.
It would probably be best to ask another student in class or the teacher for help.

How do I write a sociology research paper?
My Sociology teacher spent all day trying to make sure everyone understood how to write a research paper. I somehow didn't get the whole idea down. He explained 4 different kinds of methods including: Library research, Case Study, Random sample survey, and experiment. The methodology sections were different for each of the choices. I need some good references into finding out exactly how they work.

How do you cite an essay found online in a research paper?
I am writing a research paper on Victorian Literature and I want to quote from an essay critiquing Charles Dickens. The problem is I found the essay online and I'm not sure how I'd quote that. So if anyone has a good website or could possibly tell me how to quote it that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

How to go about writing a 5 page research paper? Just any suggestions on how to start it off?
I want to start working on it right now, but with so much information I just don't know where to start.
My research paper is about animal rights.
How to go about writing a 5 page research paper? Just any suggestions on how to start it off?
ok, well if it is MLA (modern language association) style, then you will have an introduction, body, and conclusion to your paper.
Your introduction should include information that you will be writing about, so if you are writing about animal rights you might discuss in your intro that cosmetic manufacturers have been known to use animals for product testing... and very importantly your thesis topic, or your claim. (this is what you are studying).
your body of the paper will include the research to support your claim (thesis topic) so you will research animal testing in cosmetic laboratories, etc. and discuss what goes on in them as far as animals are concerned.
your conclusion will include the wrap up of the intro and the body, so if you determine that animals are being injured in cosmetic laboratories, then you will make this statement, and you can include your own thoughts here, such as "it is the opinion of the author (you) that it is harmful for animals in labs, etc. and that animal rights should be enforced...or whatever you are going to say here.
Never use "I" "You" etc... you can refer to yourself as the author or someone else as an aquaintance of the author, etc.

Reply:I usually begin with a proper introduction detailing what the paper is about and what I hope the reader already understands about the topic. If it is a topic which could be considered new, then explaining why it is important, and why the reader should waste their time.
Another tip given to me by my 7th grade professor:
Don't get fixated by the number of words or pages. Just write. You will not notice how quickly your thoughts translate into the "requirement".
Reply:Start of witha a thesis statment which should include three supporting topics in the sentence.
Reply:Make an outline for your paper, stating your thesis statement, and then topic sentences for your body, and then conclusion. That will help give you a direction for your paper, and then you can use it to start writing the body paragraphs. Don't forget to include all your sources, because it is a research paper!

How long does it take to conduct research and write research paper?
friends i would be greatful if you can help me with following question. Is 4 months enough for coming up with hypothesis, conducting a research ( retrospective or cross-sectional), writing good paper and submitting it? Ofcourse I know publication will take a long time. I am planning to work on two research papers in tele medicine field almost full time for 4 months. Thank you.
How long does it take to conduct research and write research paper?
Depends on how hard your subject is and how much digging you need to do.
I am just beginning to write a book for kids. It will be a simple book but since it is not fiction it does take research which can be done online or at a library. Your are doing research paper for what? College, work, to write?
Many who write non-fiction full length books can take a year if they are pushing. Others take 6 months on easier topics. Just make sure you reasearch all avenues dont leave anything uncovered. Push yourself to get more and more infor. You can always drop some of it later if it is not accurate or not appropriate.
Good Luck
Reply:It really depends on how deep you want to get into the subject matter, and the length requirement - if you have to write a 25 page paper, it wouldn't take quite as long as a 100-page paper would. You didn't mention the depth of the research or the length of the paper, so it's really hard to judge how long it would take.

How can I make a research paper more professional?
I have to do a Research Paper on the Persian Gulf War, how can I make my paper more preofessional, and not look like a 11th grade Research paper?
How can I make a research paper more professional?
Here are some points for you to consider:
- Have a strong thesis and refer back to it in your paper.
- Mention other people's work that correspond with what you're saying.
- Don't make your conclusion a second version of your intro, but instead put the situation in a different light.
Also, formatting is so underrated. Double spacing, 12 pt. font, times new roman, 1 inch borders, page numbers etc.
All of those things are details that a teacher will notice. If you get those right, you're college level.

What is a good hook sentence for a research paper supporting stem cell research?
My research paper supports stem cell research, and this is my thesis statement:
"Despite the negative media and controversial ethics, stem cell research is a good idea that could single-handedly hold the key to the future of medicine."
I have the worst writer's block in the world and have been thinking about this for days.
Please help!
What is a good hook sentence for a research paper supporting stem cell research?
How would you like to solve the world's problems and cure and prevent disease? With stem cell research you can!
Reply:I'm a professional writer, and I don't usually encounter Writer's Block, per se. But whenever I am stumped to begin a project, I pretend as though I am writing my best friend. That usually helps me to start putting my thoughts down on paper. Don't worry about how it sounds as it first comes out of your head, just get your thoughts down on paper.
I think your thesis statement is headed in the right direction, but it could more powerful and persuasive. I haven't researched stem cell research, but here's a stab at one...
Stem Cell Research is the most controversial subject to face the world since Abortion, yet could hold the key to unlocking the cures to the some of the deadliest diseases and afflictions affecting mankind.
Good luck with your paper.

What is a good honest website for research paper writings?
I have 3 days to totally redo my 8 page research paper. I was wondering if anyone has used a specific website to have them write your research paper for you? If so which one? Thanks in advance
What is a good honest website for research paper writings?
There is not such thing as a good honest site for cheating...you are crazy. You can get a tutor and they can help you revise your paper, but there is nothing good nor honest about a site that will just write a paper for you.

What are some possible research paper topics?
I am writing an 8 page research paper and I am trying to think of good topics for it. We are allowed to write about anything we want so choosing one particular thing that interests me is difficult. Any ideas?
What are some possible research paper topics?
Highly controversial topics may be your best bet because there is tons of research for both sides.
For example, abortion, the death penalty, gay marriage, the war in Iraq, euthanasia, along with others are all highly controversial and easy to find information on.

What is the best method in writing paper, either a 5 page or a 20 page research paper?
I am a senior in college and have been writing papers since the first day I stepped into college, however, since this is my last year not only do I have to do a 20 page research paper but several small ones. My question is; is there any method that you would recommend that has proven to work for you? I start off with an outline but papers are still a headache to me. Any advice would help....Thanks a million.
What is the best method in writing paper, either a 5 page or a 20 page research paper?
I've been where you were. As an undergraduate student in science I wrote a lot of 10-15 page papers. Then for undergraduate thesis, I had to write 50 pages.
The same outline theory applies as always. The difference is that in each section more information will be required (and usually a broader topic is the start).
You don't mention what discipline you are in (science, history, English, etc).
From a science perspective, I was successful by using the same formats as I would for a smaller paper (abstract, intro, methods, results, discussion) and concentrated the extra information in the discussion.
In the case of a history essay, I would use increase the number of logical arguments to back up your thesis statement (instead of 10, maybe 30).
I hope this helps.
Reply:I also use an outline. I find that if you break a big task down into smaller parts; its much easier. Here is how I tend to break things down.
1) First obviously you need a topic
2) Do you research and take good notes; also don't forget to write your sources down.
3) Make your outline
4) Start writing; since you are already organized by your outline the actual writing should come out smoothly
5) Read over paper and edit.
You can break things down further if you need to; there is no need to spend all day doing these things; spend a few hours then move onto something else and come back. Just make sure you have some sort of schedule so you aren't doing everything at the last possible moment.

Where to start on a Research paper about animal testing?
idk. search 'animal testing' or something on google (http://www.google.com/). google helps me all the time. u may find a lot of websites on google.

Is it ok to incorporate somones background and history in an MLA research paper?
I am writing an MLA style research paper on stem cell research and have incorporated Christopher Reeve's history in my begining paragraph since he was in favor of the research. I'm just afraid it may be a bad way to start the paper. Any advice?-it is only three sentances two about his role as superman, and one about his spinal injury.

What is a cool disease to write a research paper on?
I have to write a five page research paper on a disease or clinical conditions for my anatomy class. I want to write about something intresting any ideas?
What is a cool disease to write a research paper on?
There's no such thing as a 'cool' disease.
I did a dissertation on Hirschsprung's disease, but most of the interesting stuff (polygenic, types of inheritance, cause) about it is outside the field of anatomy.
Depending whether your anatomy course includes embriology (I guess it does), what about Fallot's tetralogy? It's caused by the heart 'tube' folding the wrong way in the embryo (so you can discuss about development of the heart), it affects the heart's anatomy and functionality and the treatment is surgical.
And there's a bit of... colour (pardon the pun) in the history of treatment (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivien_Thom... if you're looking for anecdotes to spice up your talk.
Reply:I find type 1 diabetes interesting.
I wouldn't exactly call a disease cool, though. -.-
Reply:What about the condition where your muscles turn into bone (it was on an episode of House) - Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. Nasty!
Reply:e-coli

What can I do for a research paper regarding plants?
I am in the sixth grade and I am doing a research paper and project for a science fair. I need to use plants and only have two weeks. Please Help.
What can I do for a research paper regarding plants?
Do a report on photosynthesis
Reply:You can have some demo of plant samples showing:
- affinity to light - have a pot of small plant (chrysanthemum or Ocimum sanctum) easily available in the back yard and keep it near your window. In a few days you will find the branches leaning toward light and peep outside the window. You can take the pot and keep as a sample of plant behaviour in the fair (find a place near window there too, to retain the behaviour till the fair is over)
- affinity to water - Keep a small plant in a polythene bag planted toward a corner (not in the middle) of the bag, so that the root postion is visible. The root should not be longer than half the length of the bag; make a pin hole on another corner of the bag (toward the right or left of the plant position). and immerse the holed portion in water so that water enters upto an inch or so inside (not more). You will find by the evening that the roots bend toward the water layers which is visible through the bag.
- affinity to gravitation - Plant a youn plant in a poythene bag obliquely so that the root is placed slantingly (not right down toward the bottom). Water the plant and leave for the night. You will find the root bent toward the gravitational centre which is visible from outside the polythene bag.
Or, you may purchase a few flower plants propagated afresh by layer, graft and budding procedures in the garden nursery and explain the major vegetative propagation methods.
You can thus think of any number of easy demos to show plant attributes that you had studied in your lessons (As I do not know what is your botany syllabus, I had just told a few elementary demos ).

I need to write a research paper on an event. I researched my topic on the 18 immigrants that died inside a trailer on May 13,2003. But now I have problems turning that into a paper. What can my format be?

What topic should I pick for my research paper?
In my English class, we're reading the play 12 Angry Men. We have to pick a career and then write a research paper, but it has to be about a certain aspect of that career. I chose to do costume designer but I can't think of any topics to do for it. I've tried a few topics, but I can never find enough information to write an entire research paper on.
What topic should I pick for my research paper?
try sites like google ask and answers
it might give you facts
Reply:that play was awsome i remember that.
anyway what other career choices have you thought about doing?
Reply:1. Go to: "Research your answer" on your question page. 2. Type in: Residential Design/Information/Details? 3. Go to: #6. 4. Go to: "Professional %26amp; Technical Occupations" 5. Go to: "Performing Arts."

Help coming up with a good research paper topic on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings?
I love Tolkien's works and I really want to do a research paper on his Lord of the Rings series (or any of his works, actually), but I can't decide on which topic as it is so expansive.
The paper has to be a literary analysis and I've already previously done a paper on Christian symbolism within the books so I cannot reuse that topic.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Help coming up with a good research paper topic on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings?
I took a semester course on Tolkien at The University of Texas. Symbolism is a weak subject and I don't blame you for not wanting to rehash that subject matter.
I've read The Hobbit, The Trilogy and the Silmarillion.
Human nature, even though, it is through the eyes of a Hobbit,
is a great subject matter.
We want to help, we need to know, we see things through.
Alone, human nature is a vast subject.
You could shorten your research to the PLACES where human interaction occurs.
How does the quest make its way from the Shire to the Mount of Doom?
It is all by decisions made in particular places.
Write down all the named places.
Categorize them:
feels like home,
feels like evil,
feels like I am alone,
feels like I am with my fellowship.
feels like what ever...
The places where the interaction occurs is important to explain how each character feels.
Reply:About how it relates to WWII. It will be a long paper, and a lot of people already know much about this, why not try something else? Like Dante's Inferno

How should I start my research paper out?
I have to write a research paper on Russia for part of a project we're doing in history, but I have writers block. I have all the information I need, and I'll done fine once I get started, but I just don't know how to start off my report. Does anyone have any ideas?
How should I start my research paper out?
You haven't mentioned what you're going to writing about on Russia. People can't give ideas for starting it out without enough information about what your topic is going to be other than the obvious that it has to do with Russia.
Nobody can give you any advice without that information.
Is it meant to be informative, or just research?
When writing you should consider
1. Purpose
2. Audience
3. Tone
You need to provide more information about what your assignment is and the purpose, so people can give you ideas to help began your paper.
Reply:Start off with something that is interesting, and will hook your audience.
Ex.: The largest country in the world,Russia,is 1.8 times bigger than the U.S.
Reply:The strong influence the government has in the economical and sociolinguistic aspects of Russian society.
EDIT:
Duh.....that is a thesis.
Maybe you should just do your homework, since you have all the materials. That's not "writer's block", you're suffering from the common ailment called LAZINESS.
Reply:Put your information onto note cards. Then divide your note cards into subjects. Put subject headings down and write your information under each subject heading.
Do an intro and a conclusion. Done!

How do you write a research paper outline?
The assignment is to write an outline using some of the research materials we have for the actual paper. But what's a plan of develpment? My topic is William Rainey Harper, former President of U of Chicago
thanks.
How do you write a research paper outline?
An outline is used to sort out ideas and organize them so they are easier to understand. You start creating an outline by coming up with your main ideas. I don't really understand if you're doing a biography, or what you're doing. Here's an example:
I. Birth
A. Parents
1. Name
2. Name
B. Siblings
1. Name
2. Name...
Keep going until he's dead : )

I hope I helped. I looked up plans of development, but it didn't seem related to what you were doing...

When writing a research paper, how much perecent of the paper should be direct quotations?
I am doing an English research paper for my 9th grader Honors class, so give me some suggestions about this. Please include a website if used in your answer. Remember a website is always the best information!
When writing a research paper, how much perecent of the paper should be direct quotations?
Less than 10%. It gets annoying to the reader if half of the paper is just quotations.
Maybe every other paragraph can contain one quotation, and it's ok to have a lengthy quotation, set aside with indents if necessary, but only do this very sparingly also.
Reply:5-10% of the paper. However, even these percentages maybe misleading. It all depends on the length of the paper.
Too many quotes make the paper look plagarized!

The research paper is about the persuasive techniques used in advertisement to get people to buy a company's product. So i was just wondering if anyone has used one of these products what can you say for the over all result. Did they do what they said they would do, or is it a complete sham. Thaks in advance for the input.

What is the difference between a research paper and a report paper?
My English teacher recently assigned us a research paper. She instructed us to make sure it was not a report. I am a little fuzzy on the difference though.
What is the difference between a research paper and a report paper?
According to Jim Moore: "Like a report, a library research paper presents data and ideas (which are, however, typically drawn from several sources). Unlike a report, a research paper presents your analysis and interpretation of data and ideas found in a survey of the ... literature relevant to the topic of your paper. Analysis is the process of organizing and summarizing data and ideas in order to answer a question. Interpretation refers to a discussion of the meaning and implications of your answers for the issues, ideas, and problems that your paper addresses."
Reply:A research paper is when you write about a subject that you want to know about or more about it.
The report would be on how you did the research on the subject and what the subject was in detail.
Reply:A research paper is a paper that requires you to do research and have sources such as a book, internet source, encyclopdia, or magazine. A report paper is when you talk about a topic that may not require research. It can be a topic from a class reading.

Where could a university professor turn in a scholarly research paper relating to the hebrew language?
I'm helping a professor out in return for his help with an independent research paper. He's published a number of books and articles but the one on this topic (pertaining to the methods of learning Hebrew in America and in Israel) doesn't seem to fit in in many places. Could anyone advise on a good place for a scholarly research paper such as this to be submitted to?
Where could a university professor turn in a scholarly research paper relating to the hebrew language?
I'm not familiar with that specific field, but you might try searching for similar articles on Google Scholar and see where they published.

How do i start my introduction paragraph on my research paper?
I'm writing a research paper about air pollution but its pretty hard to start! My body paragraphs have to do with the causes of air polluttion! And some where in my research paper i have to talk about what i can do to prevent it!
I cant start my paper without actually beggining the introduction!
How do i start my introduction paragraph on my research paper?
Take a deap breath! We are about to travel into the grave world of air pollution. I will take you down the streets of some of the most polluted areas in the world, and show you how they came to this. Don't worry though, the smog will clear as our tour finishes with a discussion on ways to prevent pollution from getting worse.
Eh, it's a start, hope that helps, good luck!
Reply:1. you CAN start your paper without an introduction
2. an outline is a good place to start a paper
3. bringing together the causes and prevention might be some statement like "in order to address and hopefully prevent air pollution, it is essential to identify the causes of air pollution, including types, pollutants, and polluters, as well as laws and incentives to reduce pollution.
Reply:here's an intersting I dea I use often in my papers, think of starting with a qesutions, like
Here are 2 ways I would start:
"'What's goin on with Air pollution today?' have you ever heard people around you just talking about everday topics, well one common topic is Air pollution....etc
OR-and I think this one is better and easeir...
"'Have you ever wanted to change the wolrd...?' Well I have, and I have realized that I can do my part to prevent Air pollution. (here you just gotta let it flow-the harder part) Air polution is caused by...etc, something like daily activites or something, a way to prevent, idk
-It's harder to try and give you tips without seeing your actual paper...but you can even start off with a joke, a qeustion, heck one time I even started with sarcasim...
Good luck with your paper :)
Reply:It's as simple as introducing the topic. The last line of your intro paragraph should be your thesis, which should include the point being made in your body paragraphs. Before that, should be a general introduction to your topic: what air pollution is, and why you're writing about it. Why is this important? Introduce it the same way you would to someone who you were describing your paper to, but in more formal terms. Good luck!
Reply:Start with a really strong sentence (possibly a question) that attracts the readers attention. It is usually nice to start the beginning with an interesting quote or fact. Then give a bit of information about your main idea(s). It is hard to really tell what would be suited for this paper since i don't know what you are learning (about how to write the paper like organization, idea, voice...) or what you are writing so this is as much as i can help you with.
http://www.readwritethink.org/materials/...
Just try this website and if you use this you are bound to have a better paper than the people who don't use it.
Reply:I know this for sure. Me and my class do this stuff all the time. You have to have five sentence's and the first three should have dialoge. The next sentence's should have what it's doing like an introduction sentience. And last just have anything to introduce it to the next paragraph.
Email me if you have any more questions.
Reply:Introductory paragraphs tell the reader what they're about to read. You've told us that, so now put them in complete sentences that talk about each following paragraph. Example, "Air pollution is caused by A, B, and C. A is this. B is that. C is something else. And you can prevent it this way." Good luck!
Reply:My college professor had us brain storm ideas first then put the main topic first with support in the introduction and then we used the supporting ideas as paragraphs and then use minor details for the body. reemphasize by rewording in the conclusion.
Reply:Well, start out with a sentence to get someone's attention. Then state your main idea and vaguely list the causes you have in your body paragraph. Throw in a few more sentences to make the intro a bit bigger.
Reply:Air Polution is a worldwide problem. However luckily there is still time to repair soem of the damage. ..................
its a start
my question
Reply:Start by explaining air pollution and give some examples of it. State how we are effected by it and why. Just state the things you are going to mention in the body as well.
Reply:UHHH
EVERYDAY OUR AIR IS BEING POLLUTED BY EXHAUST FROM CARS, FACTORIES, AND BUILDINGS.
YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN KID.
Reply:The "beggining" doesn't matter, just be sure to tell us something we don't already know..

3. bringing together the causes and prevention might be some statement like "in order to address and hopefully prevent air pollution, it is essential to identify the causes of air pollution, including types, pollutants, and polluters, as well as laws and incentives to reduce pollution.

Reply:Look! In the sky! It's a bird...it's a plane...it's dirty smoke.
Reply:with a question

What is a good research paper topic for history 1877 to present?
I need to write a 10-15 page research paper on something that occured between 1877 and now.
What is a good research paper topic for history 1877 to present?
Since the Civil War happened in the early 1860s (from about 1861 to 1865), that would putt 1877 a little more than a decade after the last guy died in that war. Perhaps you might want to research what happened in the American south a decade after the Civil War, as I'm sure that there were many changes that were happening at that time...
Another idea might be to assess the relationship between America and Britain at the time, because the Revolution happened about a century earlier.....
Another idea might be to research the photography of the time, perhaps historical photography or the biographies of certain photographers at the time and the kind of photographic equipment that was used. There was no digital photography and all film had to be put in a black box to be handled and put in the camera since there was no dark room to put the film safely in the camera. Out popular 35 mm print film which is being phased out, is in rolls so we can't see the film - in essence the roll itself acts as a darkroom so the film isn't damaged when we put the film in the camera......
Just some thoughts....
Reply:Numerous highlights from 1877 are listed on this website ... just take your pick of what sounds interesting ...

What are the differences between research paper and term paper?
I have to write about the term paper. But I don't know the differences between research paper and term paper.
Please explain the differences between them.
What are the differences between research paper and term paper?
A research paper is a very specific type of paper, for which research is required — it will include a works cited page, usually with a given minimum number of reputable sources. A term paper is a big umbrella designation that basically indicates a paper of any sort written at the end of a term/semester, usually intended to take an extended period of time and to comprise a large portion of the term grade. So, some term papers are research papers, and some research papers are term papers. Some term papers, though, will not be research papers, because they're written from what you've already learned. Sometimes they may even be subjective, especially in an English class, or they may be based on primary sources such as an interview the writer performs.
Reply:Term paper
-noun
a long essay, report, or the like, written by a student as an assignment over the course of a term or semester.
Research paper
-noun
A research paper is a piece of academic writing that requires a more abstract,
critical, and thoughtful level of inquiry than you might be used to.
Reply:Term paper = a lengthy essay written about the student's work during a school or college term (written from your notes, lectures, books, etc.)
Research paper = a type of term paper, however it requires academic research (i.e. encyclopedias, DSM IV [abnormal psychology], internet/library research, etc.)
Please explain the differences between them.

Research Paper?
what are some tips for writing a good research paper??
Research Paper?
1) getting good sources
2) being able to cite the sources
3) knowing what you're actually arguing
4) if you get to choose your own topic, then pick something you find interesting
i don't know, i found these good tips, they helped me a lot
Reply:Try to write on something you really have an interest in so that you won't just be tempted to cut/paste from other people. If you already have some opinions of your own, it makes the paper more interesting for a teacher to read (been there, done that!). Keep the structure of the paper simple and follow whatever format required by the instructor. Good grammar, spelling and clean sentence structure go a long way to making it a good read so you get a good grade.
